PS4 Slim and PlayStation 4 Neo leak

There were rumours that Sony may announce a PlayStation 4 Slim alongside the upgraded Neo console, and it may just have leaked. Potentially. In this age of 3D printers and elaborate hoaxes, these photographs of a console shell can't be taken as definitive proof – but they look pretty darn authentic from where we're sitting.

It looks absolutely tiny in comparison to the existing unit, which is eye-opening in itself. The light across the top has been removed in favour of a much simpler exterior, which just includes the PlayStation symbol on matte plastic. The bottom meanwhile uses feet based upon the brand's iconic shapes. It's unclear if you'll be able to swap out the hard drive anymore.

The box says the console has a 500 GB hard drive. In June, Sony announced a new configuration of the PS4, codenamed Neo, was coming later this year but did not suggest what its design might look like. It's unknown if this is the Neo or an updated look for the old model, though it appears to be a revamped version of existing PS4 hardware. The only noticeable difference in hardware, save for its size, is the apparent removal of the PS4's optical port.
